Wayne Ray Dendy, 76, of Plainview passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Graveside funeral services were held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Petersburg Cemetery with Rev. Ted Wilson officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Wayne was born on August 7, 1948, in Lubbock, Texas to Alton and Frances (Priddy) Dendy. He grew up in Petersburg and was big into 4-H, livestock showing, and equine. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a heavy equipment operator and helped build roads. After serving his country, he returned home and attended Texas Tech. Wayne was a true Cowboy and worked for various feedlots throughout the years and worked many years at the Clovis Livestock Auction in Clovis, NM, and was a valued member of the Curry County Mounted Patrol. He also worked with cutting horses in Weatherford, TX. Wayne owned and operated his leather business in Muleshoe, TX, making and repairing saddles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Bryan Freese. Survivors include his sister, Margaret Freese of Plainview; niece, Donna Kay Burnett, and husband Vondal; great nephew, Tyler Burnett and wife Kim and their children Kora & Kali; great-niece, Rebecca Stephens and husband Brandon and their child, Bryan Stephens.
