Maria Anita Esperanza Barela
Maria Anita Esperanza Barela, age 83, of Portales, NM, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton Street, Clovis.
Memorial Mass to be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, 11:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 108 Davis Street with Father Sotero Sena officiating, burial to follow at Mission Garden of Memories, 2900 W. 7th Street, Clovis. Barbara Flores will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Maria was born in Fort Sumner, NM, on July 27, 1941, to Alfredo Sena and Cruzita Aragon. She married Eugenio Barela in Santa Rosa, NM on February 17, 1961. Maria worked as a nurse’s assistant at Retirement Ranch and Golden Age. She enjoyed singing, dancing, listening to country gospel, and opera music. Maria liked going to the casino, plants, and gardening. She loved a good bowl of ice cream, beef jerky and cooking for everybody.
Survivors include her husband; Eugenio Barela of the home, one daughter; Patricia Ann Lindsey of Clovis, NM, four sons; Simon E. Barela, Mathew D. (Cheryl) Barela both of Clovis, NM, Mario T (Rosie) Barela of Rowe, NM, and Mark A. (Corey) Barela-Eubanks of Carlsbad, NM, 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Alfredo Sena and Cruzita Aragon, four sisters; Theresa Guana, Nora Murphy, Andrea Caballero, and Virginia Lucero, four brothers; Ramon Sena, Anastasio Sena, Leonares Sena and Eugene Sena.
