Monte Guy Reagan
Monte Guy Reagan, 66 of the Shipley Ranch north of Fort Sumner passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 23, 2024 following a sudden illness. He was born November 19, 1957 in Fort Sumner to the home of Lawrence Wendell Reagan and Carol Shipley Reagan.
Monte grew up in House and Tucumcari. He graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1975. Monte attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.
Monte worked as an elevator mechanic beginning in 1979. He retired in 2020 after 40 years. Following retirement he worked as an elevator inspector. Monte traveled extensively with his work across New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Monte was an avid golfer, roper, and enjoyed skeet shooting. He was a member of the U.S. Powerlifting Association and on March 24, 2024, he won the Powerlifting Contest for his age group in both New Mexico and Colorado.
Monte made his home in Monument, Colorado until 2016 when he moved to the Shipley Ranch to help care for his parents. His favorite pastime was visiting his grandkids in Midland, Texas. He was PaPaDaw to Blake and Briggs. Monte was a Christian. He was a longtime member of House Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his father Lawrence Wendell Reagan on June 8, 2019. Survivors include his mother Carol Shipley Reagan of the family ranch, two daughters Erica Reagan of Midland, TX, Erin Smith and her husband Bradley of Midland, TX, three siblings, a sister Paula Reagan of Roanoke, Texas, two brothers Larry Reagan and his wife Kathy of the Shipley Ranch, Lewis Reagan and his wife Roberta of Valley View, Texas, two grandchildren Blake and Briggs Smith, the mother of his children Beverlee Mumy of Midland, Texas along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends.
Funeral Services were held at 1:00 pm Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the House Baptist Church, House, New Mexico with Rev. Joe Sparks officiating. Interment followed in the Reagan/Shipley family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers included Bradley Smith, Lewis Reagan, Larry Reagan, Sean Reagan, Patrick Reagan, and Scott Reagan. Honorary bearers were Johnny Morgan, Brian Rector, and Bennett Reagan.
