Van Auken, John Hugh
John Hugh Van Auken, 79, took flight with his heavenly wings on July 11, 2022 in Houston, TX.
He born March 26, 1943, in Morristown, NJ, the son of the late Oscar and Victoria Van Auken. He was a 1962 graduate of Morristown High School.
After high school John attended Eastern New Mexico University, serving as a Resident Counselor and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
He graduated from ENMU on August 5, 1966. On August 6, he married his wife, Cynthia Ogden.
After John and Cynthia were married, they moved to Reno, Nevada, where John earned his Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Nevada. On completion of his degree in 1968, he accepted a job with E.T. Barwick Mills and they moved to Atlanta, GA where the corporate offices were located. After working for 10 years with Barwick, he incorporated his own export marketing company.
In the couple’s almost 56 years together they lived in New Mexico, Nevada, Georgia, Sunningdale, England; California and Texas.
John is survived by his wife Cynthia of Houston, TX; their three children, Jill Van Auken of Atlanta, GA; Andrea Williamson of Reno, NV and T.J. Van Auken of Houston; as well as their families, including two grandsons, three granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his brothers Bill and Michael and their families, as well as many extended family members and friends around the world.
