Jerald (Jerry) Dewbre

Jerald (Jerry) Leroy Dewbre was born September 25, 1937 to Alton (Jack) Leroy Dewbre and Roxie Mae (Huskey) Dewbre in Tuttle, Oklahoma. Jerry graduated in 1955 in Bridge Creek, Oklahoma with a graduating class of 12. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Army. Three years of his service was spent in the signal corps in the canal zone in Panama. After returning from the Army he started working for Mountain Bell in Albuquerque as a lineman. He was also a cable splicer, an installer, worked on operator frames and later he was an engineer over southern New Mexico. He retired after over 30 years of service.
During the time he worked for Mountain Bell, he also farmed and ranched as a past time. After he retired, he built a feedlot and feed mixing business. He custom fed cattle and mixed feed for many of the ranches in the Fort Sumner, Santa Rosa and Yeso areas. He loved to watch cattle eat. He liked to hunt, fish and team rope but spent most of his time working his farm, ranch and feedlot businesses.
He was very knowledgeable about farming, ranching and animal nutrition. He could tell you a steer’s weight within 20 pounds just by looking at him.
His wife and children say they never knew a harder working man!
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kathryn Dewbre, of Fort Sumner; son Vance (Kim) Dewbre; daughter Kerry (Mike) O’Hare; grandchildren Orrin (Valerie) Dewbre, Becca Dewbre, Hannah O’Hare and Kaitlyn O’Hare all of Clovis, NM; 3 stepchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren.
No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jerald’s name to Habitat for Humanity of Roosevelt and Curry Counties 620 W 1st Street, Portales, NM 88130.
