Bob Prather

Bob Prather, age 100 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away early Wednesday morning, December 8, 2021 at Prarie Acres Nursing in Friona, Texas.
He was born March 10, 1921 in Comanche, Oklahoma to the home of Jackson Theodore Prather and Bonnie Lee (Sweat) Prather. He was raised in Texas and New Mexico. Bob attended high school at Montague, TX and made his home in De Baca County in 1938. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on August 1, 1942 in Santa Fe, NM and was Honorably Discharged on June 26, 1943 at Camp Edwards, Mass.
Bob married Veda May “Sis” Bailey on June 14, 1942 at the Nazarene Church in Fort Sumner, NM. Bob and Sis made their home in the Fort Sumner Valley, Lake Sumner, and Fort Sumner. Bob worked as a ranch-hand all his life.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 76 years, Veda May “Sis” Prather; sisters Mildred Corneilson, Margie Laverne Hammon; brothers Pecos Prather, E.C. “Red” Prather, and Troy Lee Prather.
He is survived by a brother Herman David “Tex” Prather of Henrietta, TX; daughters Anita Jane Williamson (Johnny) of Fort Sumner, Louise Petty (Sam Storms) of Tyler, TX and Betty Ann Berry (Mo) of Fort Sumner; sons Buddy Prather (Bea) of Bovina, TX and Bill Prather of Bootleg, TX; sister in law Delma Prather of Estancia, NM; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner, NM with Mr. Bill Prather officiating, interment will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Casket bearers included grandsons, Jim Bob Prather, Pecos Prather, Colt Prather, John Nelson, Larry Williamson, Bobby Williamson, Darrell Bishop and David Bishop. Honorary bearers were all his grandchildren.
