Rebecca L. Lopez, 90 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 following an illness. She was born June 14, 1931 in Fort Sumner to the home of Alfredo and Camila (Lopez) Lucero. She grew up in Fort Sumner and attended Fort Sumner Schools. She worked for many years as a child care provider for several Fort Sumner families. Rebecca worked as a custodian for Fort Sumner Schools for 10 years.
Rebecca was a longtime faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and member of the church choir. She loved spending time with her family, attending Bingo, and visiting the casinos. According to her family she was a jokester and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to take daily drives with her family in the community and the Fort Sumner valley.
Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Linda Gonzales; granddaughters Kierra Lopez and Trisha Lopez; grandson Baby Boy Gonzales; infant grand baby Lopez; great-grandson Cameron Ladriere; brothers Alfredo Lucero, Frank Lucero and Jimmy Lucero, and sisters Santana Coronado, Jesse Martinez and Irene Madrid.
Survivors include daughters Irene Anaya (Andy) of Fort Sumner and Vicky Lopez of Clovis; sons Ramon Lopez (Joann) of Fort Sumner, Patricio Lopez (Glenda) of Gallup, Gerald Lopez of Fort Sumner, Larry Lopez (Tracy) of Roswell and Perry Lopez (Maggie) of Mesa, AZ; brother Jake Lucero (Josephine) of Fort Sumner; 16 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation hours will be Friday from 1-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 with Father Christopher Bernabe officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Herman Gonzales Jr., Shane Lopez, Perry Lopez Jr., Patrick Lopez, D.J. Gonzales and Aaron Lopez. Honorary bearers will be all her family and friends.
