David fought a long battle with continuous strokes starting October 13, 2021 and passed away peacefully at Farwell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with his beloved wife and son by his side. Throughout his battle, he would often say with much strength and dedication “I will walk out of this place one day”.
David was born on July 21, 1954, to Ralph and Hilda Sanders in Clovis, NM where he attended Highland Elementary, Marshal Middle School and Clovis High School. A few years after graduation, David would meet the love of his life, Debbie Kelley. They would be married February 12, 1977 and made their home in Clovis. Throughout his life, David enjoyed many hobbies including: hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, camping, archery, bicycling, an avid marksman and a man of many stories and adventures that he shared often with family and friends. If David was not at home, you could often find him at his ranch in Fort Sumner, NM. David considered this the one true place he was happy and at peace.
David had many jobs throughout his life. He worked as a welder/fabricator for a large part of his life. He worked for A&M fabrication where he made many lifelong friends. He later worked for Reiman Corp. where he worked on several of the railway bridges between Clovis and Fort Sumner, NM; an experience he spoke of often as he traveled to his Ranch. For his last career journey, David worked as a zookeeper and maintenance tech at the City of Clovis Zoo. David loved working with the animals and loved to bring his son to work to enjoy the experience as well.
David was proceeded in death by his father Ralph and his mother Hilda. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Sanders of the home; son, Ryan Sanders of Clovis, NM; sister, Dr. Coralle Sanders Haley (John) of Fort Collins, CO; two nephews: Matthew Haley (Sara) of Greeley, CO and Todd Bruckhoff (Angelica) of Tucson, AZ; 3 nieces: Lora Fountain (Brent) of San Diego, CA, Annie Haley of Fort Collins, CO and Taylor Bruckhoff of Tucson, AZ; a sister in-law, Paula Bruckhoff of Tucson, AZ; a cousin, Iantha Hicks of Clovis, NM as well as many lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be made to Farwell Nursing Rehabilitation Facility (305 5th St., Farwell, TX 79325) or BSA Troop 226 (2600 N Main, Clovis, NM 88101) or a charity of your choice.
